Clear communication with fellow collaborators
Throughout 2022, I collaborated on two performance projects created by multidisciplinary groups of artists at QUT.
inter:face was an immersive exhibition presented in QUT’s Studio 130 in June 2022. I was the Technical Manager for the project, as well as working as a visual artist alongside Curator Soph Gibson.

Tight in the Bud was a live theatre work directed by Wesley Enoch and presented in QUT’s The Loft in October 2022. I was the Vision Designer as well as Head of Sound and Vision for the project.

For both inter:face and Tight in the Bud, I designed technical systems for sound and vision. I worked closely with fellow designers to ensure the systems suited the specific requirements of the performance pieces. I developed schematics as well as installing, operating and adapting the systems throughout the pre-production process, ensuring the systems were ready prior to the performances.

Across both performance projects, I used my communication skills to discuss and develop design concepts and technical solutions with my fellow collaborators, effectively transitioning from ideation to realisation as the projects developed.

Both projects provided an opportunity for me to flex my creative problem solving skills under varied equipment and venue constraints. I was able to successfully develop creative solutions that best served the work and the director’s vision.

inter:face
As Technical Manager for inter:face, I took on a leadership role alongside our Curator. Together, we led creative discussions about the format and content of the exhibition. We frequently met with the team, checking in to ensure we met agreed-upon deadlines throughout the project. Ultimately, this enabled our exhibition’s success.

I also liaised with creatives and technicians regarding the most suitable equipment for our exhibition, and oversaw and participated in the installation.

Additionally, I worked closely with our Curator to design and realise an accessible exhibition. We designed a rhizomatic physical exhibition space that enabled audience to move around freely and exit and enter at any time. We organised a relaxed exhibition session, designed for people with autism and other sensory processing difficulties.
Tight in the Bud
As Vision Designer and Head of Sound and Vision, I worked in a creative and technical role simultaneously.

I met with our director Wesley Enoch to discuss ideas and ensure my creations met the design brief. As I developed my design, I improved my QLab programming skills, using a range of different cue types to achieve the intended design effect. I also learnt and implemented computer networking skills, including screen sharing between Macs and remote QLab triggering using network cues.

I installed the vision system, a process which required troubleshooting and problem solving in the theatre. I sought advice from collaborators and experts in our team, and together, we developed creative solutions.
